Both the Kawasaki BX and GP series handle palletizing work, but they target different payload and reach envelopes. Choosing between them is a matter of matching the robot to the case size, weight, stack height, and cycle time your application requires.
Purpose-built for palletizing. Optimized reach for standard pallet dimensions and lift heights. Simplified programming for palletizing patterns. Payloads typically 130 kg to 300 kg depending on model.
Where it fits:
General-purpose industrial arm. Longer reach envelope, broader motion capability, higher payload options (up to 500+ kg on larger models). Not purpose-built for palletizing but capable of it, plus other work.
Where it fits:
If yes, the BX series is usually the better economics. Purpose-built, faster to program, tighter cycle times for standard patterns. If the cell has to do anything else (layer sheets, slip sheets, top frames, inspection), the GP series flexibility earns the cost premium.
BX tops out at ~300 kg payload for most models. If your case, bag, or drum weight plus end-of-arm tooling weight exceeds that, GP or a larger platform is required.
BX is optimized for standard US or Euro pallet dimensions and typical stack heights. If your application requires unusually tall stacks or extended reach (feed conveyors positioned far from the palletizer), GP's reach envelope wins.
BX series palletizing cells are faster to design and commission because the programming environment is optimized for the pattern-based motion. Expect 4-6 weeks integration lead time for a standard case-palletizing cell.
GP series palletizing cells require more custom programming because you are building the palletizing logic on a general-purpose platform. Expect 6-10 weeks integration lead time for equivalent complexity.
