The R-30iC is the successor to the R-30iB Plus. It is faster, smaller in footprint, and includes several updates around safety, connectivity, and user interface. For most applications, the practical difference is modest. For some, it is material.
Roughly 2x faster processor across most benchmarks. For high-speed motion applications, that translates to smoother path following and tighter cycle times. For material-handling and palletizing, the difference is negligible.
The R-30iC cabinet is meaningfully smaller. For dense cell layouts and applications where floor space is at a premium, this is a real win. For most cells, cabinet footprint is not the binding constraint.
Native support for Dual Check Safety at higher performance levels. This matters for cells that require PL e safety functions or complex safe motion. For standard PL d cells with basic e-stops and interlocks, the R-30iB Plus was already sufficient.
Updated teach pendant with faster response and refined navigation. Familiar to R-30iB Plus operators but noticeably improved. Not a reason on its own to upgrade an existing cell.
Better OT-network integration and easier PROFINET/EtherNet-IP setup. For cells that integrate with plant-level systems, this reduces integration effort.
Programs written for R-30iB Plus generally migrate to R-30iC with minimal changes. Custom safety configurations and integrator-specific tooling may need re-validation. Plan for one to two weeks of validation testing per cell during a controller migration.
The R-30iC is a real upgrade for a subset of applications. It is not a universal improvement worth ripping out working R-30iB Plus cells for. Match the controller decision to the application constraint that's actually binding.
CSM Robotics has integrated cells on both controllers across multiple OEM programs. If you are speccing a new cell or considering a controller migration on an existing one, we can pressure-test the decision.
